The methods in which a company uses to support and motivate its employees are a crucial, maybe even the defining factor, of a company’s journey and long-term success. Without proper motivation or incentive, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a workforce happy and willing to put in the time and effort to achieve productivity.
That’s why workplace culture is so vital to company productivity and success, and why it should be a major focal point of any business in today’s marketplace. So, let’s ask a new question – What makes a strong workplace culture? Here are a few key elements:
Happiness = Productivity
The question that should be at the forefront of every proactive employer’s mind is, “What will make my employees happy?” The answer may seem obvious, but it is in fact backed by numerous studies conducted by social scientists. Simply put, happier workers will be more productive while unhappy workers will be less productive.
Just like the saying goes, “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours,” the employee-employer relationship should be harmonious. A positive work culture is dependent on communication and feedback. Employee feedback provides critical insight into a company’s culture, as does an employer’s reciprocity.
Goals & Values Engage Employees
Engagement will not only increase productivity, it will increase the quality of what is being produced. Last year, a shocking 69% of employees said that engagement was a problem within their organization. Let’s break that down – if you’re in a 10-person row boat, that means that seven of those in the boat are pretending to row while just three are doing all of the work. You’re not going to get very far! You’ll often find that companies in these positions are likely to have a high turnover rate.
The only way out of this sad reflection of today’s workplace culture is for companies to proactively develop workplaces that encourage, engage and retain their top talent. Invest in your values and culture. Don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk.
